All of the practical courses are assessed on a continuous

Those in pursuit of a Certificate of Competence at RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper
or Yachtmaster Offshore levels are required to present themselves for a separate
practical examination. The examination will be conducted by a Yachtmaster Examiner
who will not have been involved in the candidate’s training.
Candidates with the required experience and sea time (details in Table) may
apply directly to the RYA for an examination on their own boat, or on a boat
they have chartered or borrowed, etc.
Alternatively, candidates can attend a special coastal / yachtmaster training
course offered by Seaborne Charter & Tuition. Courses are constructed as
follows:
The first four days are spent with a Seaborne Charter & Tuition Instructor,
undergoing intensive training on all key aspects of the syllabus. On the final
day, an independent examiner takes over to conduct the examination, which will
take 6-10 hours for Coastal Skipper and 8-12 hours for Yachtmaster Offshore.
