Power Boat Level 1 National Powerboat
Course
Power Boat Level 2 National Powerboat Course
Drivers of high-speed powerboats are often subject
to bad publicity. This adverse publicity is often created by a
lack of awareness of the correct protocols and procedures on the
water, rather than disregard or the uncaring attitude that is often
portrayed.
RYA Powerboat courses are designed to provide
the opportunity to readdress the balance, by not only tutoring
on safe boat handling and manoeuvring skills, but also to provide
an introduction into the ‘rules of the road’ and the
IRPCS regulations (International Regulations for the Prevention
of Collision at Sea), thereby providing the grounding for both
courteous and skilful attitude to boat handling.
The Powerboat syllabus is appropriate to all
small sports boats, RIBs and dories, etc.
There is NO actual examination involved in Powerboat
Level 1 and 2. It is a course designed to impart knowledge from
instructor to student, and for the instructor to assess over the
duration of the course the student’s ability to both understand
and apply what they are being taught. This will be achieved by
the student being asked to carry out specific manoeuvres, and ongoing,
informal discussion and questioning of the topics being covered.
The overall tone of the course is designed to be informal, relaxed
and enjoyable, whilst at the same time providing encouragement
and a sense of achievement. But above all, developing the skills
and confidence to enjoy your recreation without putting yourself,
your passengers and other water users at risk.
